These Stones Episode 2 “Eyes to See” Study Guide

This week’s episode explores themes of parental love, acceptance, and sacrifice.

Episode Summary

In this week’s episode of These Stones, McKenna teams up with Courier Samuel to help Holly, a reclusive mother, allow her adult son with Down Syndrome, Jimmy, to reintegrate into society. Holly’s overprotective nature has kept Jimmy isolated, leading to a neglected yard and a strained relationship.

Samuel and McKenna pose as landscapers to gain access to Holly’s home under the guise of a free lawn revitalization. Samuel encourages McKenna to listen not only with her ears but also with her eyes, believing that God will reveal answers and opportunities for helping others.

Following Samuel’s advice, McKenna listens to God’s guidance and purchases a set of pots from her job to give to Holly. This unexpected gesture softens Holly’s defenses, allowing McKenna and Samuel to deliver their message. Samuel emphasizes the importance of letting Jimmy experience the world and become a positive force in the lives of others.

When Holly expresses her fear of Jimmy facing bullying again, Samuel references Matthew 27, highlighting that God understands the profound pain of watching a loved one suffer better than anyone. He shares his own story, revealing that his mother, Hannah, recognized him as a gift from God and chose to let him go into the world to fulfill his purpose.

Speak, for Your servant is listening — 1 Samuel 3:10

When we listen to God’s leading, we can help others in ways that touch them far beyond what we could have done on our own. McKenna’s obedience to His prompting is an example of what can happen to any of us who enjoy an interactive, listening relationship with God.

Have you ever noticed that God was trying to get through to you about something—but it took you a while to realize it? How did you figure out that He was speaking?
