Heartland Catch UP: Season 19 Episode 6 “Under The Lights”
Happy New year, Heartland fans! Season 19 is back in full swing, and this midseason premiere did not disappoint. This week, the Hudson Rodeo became the stage for some of this seasonâs most pivotal moments. After last episodeâs setbacks, Amy finds herself fighting to rebuild her reputation, only to confront old tensions and new challenges head-on under the big arena lights. Nathan and Caleb are forced to work through their simmering rivalry, Katie must make a tough choice between her writing and her team, and loyalties are tested on and off the field. Meanwhile, new sponsorship battles emerge, Dexâs search for purpose takes a dangerous turn, and even Loganâs return brings both closure and new beginnings. Read on for the full summary!
âEverybody loves a good comeback story.â — Cheryl
Amyâs Reputation Is Restored 🥇
Amy enters the episode still dealing with the fallout from the colic incident, with clients canceling and her confidence shaken. Taking on Cherylâs rope horse, Strider, feels like a major risk, especially when Cheryl insists on showcasing him at the Hudson Rodeo in front of potential buyers. Amy knows a strong showing could help restore her reputation, but with limited time and mounting pressure, the stakes couldnât be higher.
When Amy injures her hand during practice, it threatens to derail everything. Unable to ride, sheâs forced to rely on Nathan and, unexpectedly, Caleb, who agrees to heel for him. Despite lingering tension between the two men, they put their differences aside in the arena. Their teamwork pays off and they earn the fastest time of the night, proving that Strider is back on form and that Amyâs training was never the problem.
The win brings more than a trophy: Cheryl credits Amy for Striderâs comeback and hints at a bidding war, restoring Amyâs standing in the rodeo world. For Amy, itâs a long-needed reminder that her instincts are sound & that even after setbacks, her reputation is something she can rebuild on her own terms.

Nathanâs Blind Spot: Gracie 🔦
From the start of the episode, itâs clear that Nathan is still struggling to see Gracie objectively. While he pushes for Pryce Beef to feel more âpersonalâ and authentic, Gracie is already thinking several steps ahead, quietly laying groundwork that will later put Nathan in an impossible position. Her move to sponsor the Hudson Wilds without telling him shows just how differently the siblings operate, even when they claim to be working towards the same goal.
Amyâs growing suspicion adds tension to this dynamic, and she confides in Nathan that she saw Gracie in the barn shortly before Spartan and Polaris fell ill, and while she admits she doesnât have proof, the timing troubles her. Nathan listens, but he ultimately canât reconcile the idea that his sister would knowingly put horses in danger. He acknowledges that he may have a blind spot when it comes to Gracie, especially after everything theyâve been through caring for their father, but he isnât ready to confront her without certainty.
By the end of the episode, Nathan is stuck between two worlds: the loyalty he feels toward Gracie and the relationship heâs building with Amy. When he leaves for Kamloops, he and Amy agree to leave things on a positive note, but as the effects of Gracieâs choices continue to ripple outward, itâs going to be harder for Nathan to remain neutral.
âTo be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.â
Dexâs New Venture 🐂
Dex continues to search for direction after the end of his hockey career, and his restlessness is on full display at the rodeo. Since heâs met Dex, Jack has tried to redirect the young man, sharing âcowboy poetâ wisdom about respect, fear, and responsibility, but Dex doesnât seem ready to listen. When Jack assigns him to work the registration table, Dex is drawn to the bulls, especially Killjoy, a really mean one that everyone else is afraid to ride.
When Dex impulsively takes the place of a drop out, Grady Steves, place in the bull riding lineup, the move feels less like bravery and more like desperation. Heâs thrown almost immediately, but the adrenaline rush only reinforces his belief that bull riding could be his next calling. For Dex, the danger seems to quiet the anxieties heâs been carrying since losing hockey, giving him a sense of purpose, even if itâs reckless.
The following morning, Jackâs response is swift and firm. He makes it clear that Dex crossed a line and put himself, and others, at risk. When Dex asks Jack to help him, Jack fires him, relieving him of his ranch hand duties. By asking Dex to leave Heartland, Jack draws a hard boundary, signaling that while he understands Dexâs struggle, he wonât enable choices that could cost him his life.

Loganâs Return 🤠💗👩🏽🦱
Loganâs return to Hudson reveals a quieter, more self-aware version of the man Amy once knew. Heâs building a name for himself and his career seems to finally be on the upswing: he just led a sold-out colt starting clinic in Canmore the previous week. Now grounded in his work with horses, Logan admits that stepping back from ambition helped him regain perspective, and, when he runs into her at the Hudson Rode, he thanks Amy for always reminding him what mattered most.
At the same time, his ex, Miley, is struggling with pressure, self-doubt, and the fear that sheâs losing her edge. With Heartland now sponsoring her, expectations are higher than ever as she works toward starting her own ranch focused on breeding barrel racing horses. While the sponsorship is a huge vote of confidence, it also raises the stakes financially and emotionally. Before her run, Logan tells her that heâs always âenviedâ the way that she rides with freedom and needs to reconnect with that feeling, and his words land at just the right moment. His words help Miley refocus, leading to a winning run that reminds her why she started competing in the first place.
Later, Miley thanks Logan for his âzenâ words and they both seem at peace with the past and open to whatever comes next. Hereâs to hoping that as both of them juggle ambition and uncertainty, Logan and Miley can find their way back to each other, stronger and more sure of what they want.
Katie Shines Under the Lights 🐎📖
Katie faces a major crossroads when her reading at the Calgary Writers Festival is rescheduled for the same night as the Hudson Rodeo. Torn between her passion for writing and her commitment to the Hudson Wilds, she worries that choosing one means letting someone down. River makes it clear how much the team needs her, adding emotional weight to the decision.
Katie ultimately shows up for the rodeo, delivering a strong performance in the spotlight â even as Pryce Beef is revealed as the teamâs new sponsor, catching her completely off guard. Lou reminds her that sometimes professionalism means showing up, even when circumstances arenât ideal. After the performance, Katieâs teammates rally around her, offering to get her to Calgary in time for her reading.
Thanks to their support, Katie gets to do both â shining in the arena and sharing her work on stage. The moment reinforces how far sheâs come, learning to balance multiple passions and trust that the people around her want to see her succeed.

- Are Nathan and Caleb becoming a new dynamic duo, or was their rodeo success a one-time truce?
- Do you think Dex is searching for purpose, or just adrenaline? Was Jack right to send him away from Heartland, or should he take Dex under his wing?

I absolutely love heartland but am very disappointed that the amount of episodes per season are cut way down, we used to be able to watch 15-18 episodes per season why only 10 episodes now?
The episodes are too far apart. I pay my membership then have to wait on episodes .Lose what time they are on.
